Also noticed those RTR's have GO motors in them. Are they changing to Go's for RTR's in the future?

Both the truggy / buggy come with GO engines?

There was a time when they were going to use GO engines but there was quality or price issues if my memory serves me correct and the went back to Force engines.
Not sure if they will be getting Go motors in future.

hakmazter
07-17-2008, 01:33 PM
Me either. I am talking to Mikey about switching the RTR buggy over to .25 instead of a 21. Everyone else is doing it and I have heard that people are complaining about the RTR not being fast enough compared to others. It is not like people who buy the RTR kits from anyone go to sanctioned events where it matters.....

razzor
07-17-2008, 01:49 PM
that would be a selling point for the RTR market for sure !!!

vnmsgt
07-17-2008, 02:11 PM
Well 2 people I have sold the buggy RTR bought it for the included .21 motor so they can race where they live at. All others did not come with it and they were going to have to buy .21's to put in the other brand.

Also a certain other brand truggy I broke in for a friend yesterday comes with a GO .28 in it and is really nice to have a quality motor like that included in a RTR. Alot of people do not like the Force motors for some reason. I never had a problem with them but I guess some other's had on there OFNA's. No problems yet with the Caster Force motors though.

razzor

The Force motors are generally trouble free.
cant speak for the GO rtr engines though.

I have been testing one of the newest generations with the force .21 3 port installed and it has been nothing but fautless. Starts on the nose, solid tune and excellent reliability. For my location I have never had a better set mill out the box, it didnt require a tweak for the whole of break in.

Personally I have been a long time lover of rtr spec Forces but me thinks I have seen the light with the Go`s! To be fair I have been running on of the blue head (non pull) 3 ports in my race buggy for a while now and have yet to see better bang for your buck.

Try one of the 3-port race spec's or the 5-port....and whoa, hold on to your shoe's cause it will definatly send your buggy sailing over anything you put in front of it!!!!!!!!

I'm confused. The guys at the local shop told me mine has a GO engine. The crankcase doesn't have any markings other than the displacement, neither does the cooling head. Though after sliding on its top for fifty feet it doesn't really have any ano left either lol. But seriously, how can I tell? I guess teh only ones that have seen mine in person are Mike and Cam, any answers guys?

And as far as RTRs go, what about a .28? I mean, most that buy the RTR are bashers (like myself) and could care less about being race legal, and most local races it seems don't really have any real restrictions on engine size. I put a Force .28 on mine just for giggles and I nearly pee'd my pants over how much faster it was. And it seems like the diffs and such will hold up just fine.

vnmsgt
07-23-2008, 06:16 PM
From other brand RTR's I have seen with GO's in the past they always say GO engines on top of the head and say GO on the side of the crankcase.

hakmazter
07-23-2008, 07:52 PM
You have a go engine as far as I know. They are really nice overall....Easy to use, easy to maintain, quick, but not a ballistic missle, but with a RTR, it is what it is....

3pointX
07-23-2008, 08:30 PM
No, not a missile by any means, but fast enough for the track here in Des Moines. On a more open track - if there is such a thing in RC, I'd probably have issues, but it seems like it's just suited for the track. Almost too fast for a rookie such as myself. Almost.

The way I heard... the RTR are supposed to have Go engines but for a while they went back to Force due to supply issues or something like that.

So we thought they were Go, but the last batch was actually Force.

Maybe I heard wrong?

Yep - I have run them all before, I was intrigued to try the cheaper engines as well though. Of the GO race engines my favored one has to be the Race / Spec 3Pt Red Head - you know what they say about red heads:D

No ! What do they say !?!? :)

I found the RTR engine was not fast enough to race with, most of the racers around here have top of the line mills, and down the strait I could not keep up. the rest of the track i stayed up with them. I kept in on all 4s and still was turning out laps that were about 3 seconds slower then the leaders. Luckily I found a Novarossi 2001BF and Dynomite 086 pipe that a guy was selling for $125. Not a top of the line engine, but enough to at least keep up.
Don't get me wrong the RTR engine is nice, Starts right up every time, and holds a tune, but not quite enough power to be really competetive

vnmsgt
07-25-2008, 06:29 PM
For most regular club races the RTR engine is good. A guy by me races one and does fine. Now when you got some serious racers show up or race in a higher up class then you might get outrun like you said.

3pointX
07-26-2008, 12:09 AM
Nothing wrong with the RTR engine, but the Machinist has a point though, at least in terms of local racing. Here in Des Moines they allow pretty much any engine and I can see it being difficult to keep up.

Machinist, in all reality, the engine is plenty fast for that track, it's just that the other buggies are faster down the main straight. On the other hand, the Caster hangs pretty well on the rest of the track, so if you can keep the other drivers at bay, whatever the hell that means, down that first 30 feet or so of teh main straight, you sould be okay. I've seen you drive and I think you could pull it of with the RTR. But since you have a different mill now, I suppose it's a moot point.

hakmazter
07-26-2008, 12:57 AM
I hate to say it, but there are at least 5 racers there that I can think of that are as good as Cam and he has made it into the A and B mains at some RCPro series events recently....

You guys going there tomorrow? I can't wait to see 1/8 buggy.

You need to get all of them that you can. I have a bunch of the pointed ones.....I'll trade ya for the stardard side ones like in the pic.:D

vnmsgt
07-26-2008, 11:17 AM
All you have to do with the pointed ones is get a dremel and round off the ends. My friend bought one from me and when I saw it on his truggy I asked "I thought you bought the pointed one?". I could not tell the difference. Rounded off just like the other.

hey you're the one that agreed that it looked pretty gay. yellow and lavender is not a good color scheme for an r/c body
