View Full Version : HELP PEASEY GET TO W.I.N!!

Hey everyone, I am trying to raise enough money to get Peasey to W.I.N. (wiregrass indoor nationals) In Alabama May1-3. If anyone can donate anything it would really help. You can pay my paypal at vnmsgt@embarqmail.com. Mike is paying his entry fee and Peasy is staying with some of us at the hotel so that helped out there. If we do not raise enough money, everyone will get a full refund. Us east Coast guys want to show Peasey what's up, so if you WEST COAST wannabe's think your faster, help Peasy PROVE IT!!<*& We need to raise up just over $300 for a round trip ticket for our beloved Team Manager;).
Thanks guys for any help.

Whatever is cheaper. I do not think Peasy would care. The more in the Hotel room the cheaper the $$ we can split too!!

I just paypal'd Chris $30 and will most likely kick in more next week. I really want to have Peasey run with us there. ModHobby is setting up a full blown retail setup there, it is going to be an awesome event. Also, think there is going to be some other West Coast Pros showing up!
FYI: I am heading into surgery* tomorrow, so I will not be available until Thursday at the earliest if anyone needs to know. I am being held overnight and released Wednesday.
*mouth surgery. Getting my mouth made bigger to keep up with Skeller. J/k man. It is to reposition my top jaw over my bottom to correct an open and under bite.

Dan, We fully agree that electrics deserve there own class, but due to the low numbers of electrics it is either allow them to run with nitro's or they do not run at all. We do not want to shut them out, so for this year they will run together. HOPEFULLY, there will be enough to seperate them next year.

bring the electrics we want everybody to run just remember the mandatory pit stops and from the looks of things by next year they will have their own class i know that ill be in one
few questions, what if their is say 10 electrics or so,will you put them in their own class?
"IF" I run my electric instead of my nitro, and make a main that is longer than the time one battery lasts, and have to do a battery change, one battery change is worht at least as much time as 4-5 pit stops pretty easily, pit stops still mandatory as said electric would have extended time in pit lane for the battery change.
One scenario, say I make the 45min main,I would have to change the batteries 2 times, and at least 30-45 seconds each change(with a really fast pit guy),the average nitro buggy can run 7-8 mins a tank only having to pit roughly 6 times at 5-8 seconds each pit.The electric would be in pit lane considerably longer
than said nitro without the mandatory pit stops-how will you address this?
I am not trying to be difficult, just want to be clear on this so i can decide if i am going to run my nitro or electric buggy?
Thanks for any answers, you can pm me if you would rather discuss with me directly.

Typical attitude of a nitro racer... LOL :#$
Kevin poses a good question, and it's an easy answer if you are really trying to be fair. The math is easy to figure out, and doing a battery change is almost always going to take longer than the pit stops required by a nitro car.
Soooo.... an electric car should NOT have to make fake pit stops if a battery change is going to be done. Forcing the electric car to do both really isn't fair, and would seem to be the result of either prejudice or fear. <*& :)
imjammin
04-09-2009, 04:21 AM
Mr Fusion seems like you would wait for a reply before you throw up words such as PREJUDICE or FEAR. Kevin we want to keep this as competitive as possible and at the same time keep it to were there is not bickering between 2 sides. I feel that if there is enough we can make a class of its own, but it would only be either sportsman or pro not both. Second if there was enough for a seperate class there is no awards for another class because of the time that is left. So with this being said I think that it would be best to combine them this year. The electrics is growing to the point that next year there should be enough to have there own class. As far as the mandatory pit stops, yes they will have to be made. We will let everybody decide on how often and yes battery change will be taken into consideration also. How long can you run on a battery? I hope this clears up all questions and is not prejudice.
Tim Monday

i can run 15 min all out, conserve battery and can get 20,either way,it would be 3 battery changes for me "IF" I made the main

That's True it wouldn't be fair. Rick can run 25-30 minutes on a set of batteries so he would only have to pit one time so it kind of depends on the capacity of the batteries on how many pit stops would have to be made. Everyone gets different run times in both cases. All depends on how much money someone spends.

ImJammin, just so you know, this is a much bigger battle than you can imagine and of course, being Caster, we are truly the forefront of this battle. Dustin has been pushing brushless technology for over 5 years now and he has to battle people with the mindset of Dave D. Both have legitimate points, etc....
So just because it is in our thread about your race, your race is really not part of the argument as this will continue on long after the 2010 W.I.N. that I plan on supporting....
Just don't take offense to all my clowns..It has nothing to do with W.I.N.....Now if Dave and Dustin both show up at your event with boxing gloves......lol.
Charge admission and at least profit off us....lol.
I do however appreciate you looking into it and trying to make sure it is fair for your race. Over time, there will be standardizations that I know will happen. Carlton frequents our site and a few others and is on board in regards to rc pro. Roar is also working on rules, but I am sure that the classes will separate soon as the technology improves.

Someone needs to develop a quick release batt holder/straps that can compete with 5-8sec quick fill nitro and then patent it. Easy $$$.

Every race that we have been in and are planning on running are all Nitro. The JBRL series that I'm planning on running in will have a seperate class available for the electrics. I hope you do have enough electrics sign up so you can run a seperate open class for them as they did at Silver State and the Nitro pit.
I do not run electric myself but a good friend and also Caster Team Member Rick Jenkins does and I support him all I can. He is very good with the electrics and spends a lot of time and Money learning and trying new things and I feel is an asset to the electric community especially around here. After the opening races at the Local tracks Rick and I are going to go to all of the hobby shops around with our cars and talk to the owners about bringing the Caster line but more so concentrate on getting the ELECTRIC Casters in the shops so we can have seperate classes around here.
That is the reasoning behind what I had said about being a guest. Any time electric is involced in a race it alway's causes problems especially with Motor limits, batteriy sizes so on and so forth. Nitro is much easier and basically you run what you brung and no one cares. Electric guy's are a different breed.

I feel that the major gripe of electric vs nitro is that the more money you spend on a electic motor and batteries the more advantage you get.
Where as if you had the best motor/hand bult (modd) it's still a level playing field due to putting down the power.
From my season opener this past weekend Electrics should take off without a doubt due to the power they put down and the ease.
In my opinion, any 3 port motor vs the top of the line 7 port still can't hold a candle to electric power. Just youtube tesla and see how quickly they acclerate vs a pertrol car.
Bottom line, electrics are still new even after the years and even after their proven performance some people still like the nitros. In addition, there's no set rules (race time/motor limit).
Nitro is more of a level playing feild where the driver has to drive. Where as electics, getting the $$$ batts and motors will/should win the race; pending time limits.

Another part of the reason for bagging on the electrics is that when I first got into RC I used to go race at an indoor track that was 100% 1/10 and under. Both Nitro and electric with excellent fans set-up to clean the air and one day I started my engine while the heat before me was still running (1 1/2 minutes left)and everyone of them on the drivers stand all started complaining about it. I had to shut it off and had to wait for them to start calling names done before starting it and then could only get 2 warm up laps in once I got on the track before they started the heat. I didn't complain about it or ask for rule changes I just dealt with it and went on, I was a guest in an electric dominated class.
The track has been around for years and the owner finally got tired of all the electric guy's and the complaining about motor limit and all the issues electric racers bring to any club or series race that he has since turned the pit area into a top notch rock crawling area and offers practice only. No more racing.

Rick must be running 8000mah packs or something similar.
I run a neu 1512 2.5d on 4s thunder power 5000mah 25c packs and get the runtimes i posted.
Saying the electrics are unfair because of power is not a valid point in my eyes, the guys running 3 port sport engines have nowhere near the power of the higher end engines, they don't complain about that, enignes vary greatly in power output.Alot of guys around here find the electric cars harder to drive because of the power down low,I prefer the flashlight power myself.
My car comes out of the turn harder than the nitro counterparts, but top speed is about the same for most, there is a guy running the orion crf engine and he has more topend than I do.
How is the track going to prepared?hardpacked grooved, wet and loamy?

You can take your flashlight power and stick it where its dark!LOL
I dont have to much of a problem with it.It is a little unfair when it comes to flame outs, tuning ability, and the abilty to jump 50 feet without even having to get a good run at it(exaggerated a little bit but you know what I mean!)

The guy's that are running 3 port sport engines are either just getting into the hobbie or they do it for the FUEL MILEAGE. Motor size max on a buggy is a .21
Fuel cells are the same size in buggy so guy's will opt for less power and more runtime = less pitstops.
As for the CRF pulling you on the top could of just been that he had a larger clutch bell than the other guy's. He wanted top speed rether than fuel mileage and torque. Too many variables, but when it comes down to it electrics have an advantage over Nitro on the smaller technical tracks with jumps when coming out of corners.
Step up to the dual 8000 true Rc batteries and you would only have to change them once.

OK, here are the rules...
Everyone work as a team representing Caster while there (not worried about that)
More importantly, everyone work together making sure that everyone elses vehicles are top notch and ready to go...check wheels, plastic parts, etc..... Not sure how much time between heats, etc with marshalling and whatever else, BUT, help each other out because if we at least do not dnf, that is a good thing, but with the way it has been set up, hopefully you will not even notice the Losi or Kyosho guy as you are trying to catch the Caster leader.....

Someone needs to develop a quick release batt holder/straps that can compete with 5-8sec quick fill nitro and then patent it. Easy $$$.
I worked on one... even during the r&d for the Fusion. Problem is that it's only going to be needed when running with nitros, and only when the race is more than 20 min.... and I don't know how many in that position would really want to do it anyway. It also adds a lot of potential for things to go wrong in a frantic pitstop. We don't need guys blowing up stuff because the pit buddy is in a rush or isn't familiar with the electronics.
I do like the idea though and it has been done in electric racing before.... 1/10 oval....

Tim, no offense intended.
I think you "misread" the tone of the comments on this thread, and probably totally miss the dynamic here on the forums. I'm not talking in reference to your event or any other specific track or race. We are merely having fun taking jabs at each other, and sometimes actually making a valid point or expressing an opinion.
all these things <*& :& ?&^ :#$ :&!@ are supposed to help everyone understand when we are serious and bitching and when we are having some fun
But you know what they say.... there is always a grain of truth to all jokes. Otherwise they wouldn't be funny. So yes... I have seen some of what I would say is fear and prejudice (relative to our hobby with toy cars) regarding nitro racers allowing a guy to run the same chassis but with a different source of power to turn the tires. Still, my comments were never intended to be taken so seriously, and those terms were used to poke fun at the boys. *cough* DaveD *cough* Fortunately the vast majority of racers welcome the challenge and have the right attitude... the more the racers the merrier and 99% of the time it's driving skillz that wins races.

Tim Monday
As the truggy class was here in Fl. last year...it was not larger enough to split, so everyone ran together....sportsman and pro. Likewise I think should be done with the electric. I have had this discussion with one of the drivers here already.....and the comparison between the two vehicles definatley give the edge to the electric. Guys can be as much as 2 seconds faster per lap in the elec. as in the nitro.(good drivers of course) We are not comparing apples to apples here rather apples to oranges. It should be an even playing field, and with a brushless 1/8 scale it is not. I am going to run regardless, but I do think the electrics should be run all together in their own class.

2 seconds faster?
The results I've checked show the top pro guys so far have been only tenths of a second faster with electric, with the exception of Maifield at the Jconcepts race who was over a second a lap faster with electric. Check the big races and the lap times are really close and I've seen a couple guys that were actually slower w/electric.
I want to run with the biggest competition so hopefully there will huge numbers of racers running electric soon, and we can have them separated from the smelly cars. :)
I'm going to try to have a nitro running this summer.... might get to run both nitro and electric at the rcproseries events. But that's not a fair comparison because my nitro cars usually have slipping clutches and ill tuned motors LOL so I will welcome any help from the veteran nitro guys at these races. I need to get my nitro running 100% so I can find out how MY lap times compare...

I think that race did favor the electric cars... more so than most nitro tracks. That race definitely had the biggest electric advantage I've seen. Other races show the lap times much closer between the cars.
Checking liverc.com... looks like when you got in a good groove and laid down consistent fast laps you were on pace of 27.2 in nitro and 25.4 in electric.
Maifield was running consistent 25.0 in nitro and electric was low 24's. He had a bunch of laps around 24.3/24.4 with a few blistering high 23s but most laps were low to mid 24s. That's right at 1 second a lap difference.
That was the RC Clash
Mr Fusion
04-10-2009, 08:02 PM
But check out the Silver State race:
Maifield's fastest laps were nearly identical, and he ran more fast laps in nitro than he did in electric. In nitro, he did several 36.5 laps in the main. In the electric mains combined, he only did a few laps in the 36s with only one or two in the mid 36s.
looks like either a tie, or advantage nitro.
Mr Fusion
04-10-2009, 08:09 PM
Now check out a couple guys at the Nitro Challenge... fastest laps:
Chad Bradley nitro 43.4 electric 44.2
Kevin Gahan nitro 43.5 electric 44.6
1 second a lap slower with electric. I didn't study the lap times too close on this one but these guys were so close by those numbers it seems right on.
So if you average all three events, looking at the fastest guys who ran both classes, it's a dead heat.
So it seems that the advantage could favor either nitro or electric depending on the track.
