Thought I would make a thread to post race results for us guys driving Caster's. Also can post where to find race results too for us who cannot go to some of the races across the country. BTW where can I find the race results from the SC pro race that happened yesterday?:D Had some guys from around here go up there and would like to see if some of the caster guys beat them LOL!

Hi guys
Had a pretty good weekend racing.
Came 3rd in B main and that was with a glow plug change!!!!
Was leading for 3quarters of the race then got to end of straight and blew plug.
Only just missed out on the A mains.
Now if i had brakes for racing i would have been. Yes my brakes didn't work the whole day for me and it didn't matter what i did i couldn't get it to stop.
So not so bad for a days racing lol.

Lol just ruts and a good photographer :D
Only running OS VZB Vspec with a Jammin JP4 pipe.
Center diff is 5000 from memory.
But yeah bit of fun when your coming out of a corner with front wheels of the ground gets a few comments.

Wow, those are pretty good results.....Where is YOUR picture?
Nopics
this past saturday i ran at the 2nd annual reedsburg rumble in reedsburg wisconsin. this race is directed by scotty earnst of trackside of milwaukee. i showed up friday night to do some practice only to find the track still saturated with water.
i also forgot to mention that i was still running my break in tanks on my new sirio motor
saturday came with not much luck with the track drying up. started to break in my motor some more. i could not get the thing to start or run very well so i opted to run my go 7pt. i did not get one second of practice time before the qualifiers.
only 2 rounds for the day because of the amount of entries.
1st round was going awesome untill my body flew off. i know that i put clips in but not sure where they went, i think that someone took them off of my car when i wasn't looking. got the body back on and finished the qualifier.
during the downtime, i rebuilt the all 4 shocks adding 2 holes to the 1.5mm pistons and using 35wt losi oil.
2nd round was awesome, the car was hooked during the rough stuff, i can not wait till i get the big bores though. i ran 8 laps at a 5:08, not bad for no practice. tq was 9 laps 5:09. qual 4th in the c. was a little bummed but the b and c, everyone was seperated by a sec, that's all.
got the early lead, running awesome. theeeennnnnnnnn as i was coming off the front straight jump, my car landed and broke the lower rear shock mount. that is the second time in 3 weeks that this has happened. not sure if there is a bad batch out there, but i plan to order some new ones asap. man i was really mad, i was determined to this caster car in the a and i feel that it could have happened, the car, myself, and the motor was having an awesome day for not having ANY practice time

lower rear shock mount is the a arm, correct?
That is what I was thinking. I am a bit confused.
well maybe i should have said shock end pc. (the part that threads into the shaft itself) then the plastic pc gets a screw through the center. does this make sense?
Jonathan Bell
07-17-2008, 09:29 AM
that makes much more sense. ;) what I try to do on all my cars, especially when ur running alot of droop, is screw down the droop screws until you take the presure off the shock ends. Puts alot less stress on the shock ends comng off face of jumps of anytime the suspension unloads. Hope this helps.
razzor
07-17-2008, 09:32 AM
Yeah make sure the droop screws are your suspension limiters. or you will bust those ball ends all the time.
droop was definitely set for max, i will have to check my droop again and see if it is not exceeding shock length

OK....I decided to race the buggy first before I tested it anywhere else.
No breakage of any kind.
Did everything better than I thought it would.
So far....so good.
At the halfway point of the A-main I was in second place approx 5 sec. behind the leader.
Clutch bearing blew out and I was done.
Other people commented on how well the buggy looked.......that's good.
I'm tired....just got back to my motel....and I'm going to bed now.

Race results this weekend. A few of us decided to head about 2 hrs south to lake city, tn to Medford Motor Speedway's track. I had been here a few times this year with not much luck because of every attempt being rained out! Today the weather was in our favor though. Took TQ by and finished a little over a lap ahead of the field. Below a pic of me and the brass and the results paper of the Expert Arena "A" Main. Can't wait to get the Caster truck and go to work! :)

It is actually much more fun to say why. It is sort of an inside joke over time that people were having issues and I was getting all bent out of shape because they were usually not Caster related issues (even though some were) and I felt they were making Caster look bad....the body fell off has happened about 3 times now, but there were things like "I forgot to....and disaster struck....."
I don't care as much any more as we have actually solved most if not all of our problems going forward....so if it is funny, definitely post it....we all like to laugh at each other. I told my story of failure in "went racing...sort of" and even found a picture....I can't blame Caster products though....it was all my doing.... ha ha ha.
Mike
that is too bad, sk, hope better luck goes your way.....sounds like you were on the right track though.... We need to see if you can win with that buggy though....See if Cam just has dumb luck, or if he is as good as he claims.....

The buggy was actually really good through the whole track. Several people said to me...."that's a Caster? Really........WOW!! That thing looked pretty good out there. I figured it would fall apart."
So I guess that's a good thing?:D
I did notice it had very good on-power steering....but not quite the off-power steering that I'm used to. Being my first time to even drive it....and not changing anything but the camber....not a bad showing imo. After a few more times out with it I should be able to tweak it a little and get it where I need it to be.
I will say this.....80ft motocross style rythm section........triple doubles at the entrance.....approx 40ft of whoops and 2 big single spaced far apart at the end. ............
I could triple in....triple out....blast through the whoops at half throttle in a straight line faster than anyone else I seen all day.
Buggy handled the rough very well with the stock shocks....Mug. 350f and 300r.
Gonna try to put some more time on it at my home track next week. I'll be able to have the computer on so I can compare my times against what I usually run there.

Hoe did Cam do today?
Mr Fusion
07-26-2008, 11:37 PM
Not bad...the car was working pretty good on our small track that had good traction today. I will have to talk to him tomorrow and post some thoughts if he doesn't get on here.
I ran my prototype electric today with the big bores... and it was working pretty good too. Cam and I were running bumper to bumper in 3rd/4th about midway through the main (I had to bump from the B due to qual points and couple dnfs) until I had "electric car" issues. The leader broke out and Cam hung in for 2nd. Matt Rodgers (Agressor) was fast too, but had a some engine/flameout problems.
The big bores are different... feel awesome but will take more track time and experimenting to find a good setup.
We ran the 1.4mm pistons with blue springs and 40/35 f/r... and Cam ran 50 in the front for the main.
Cam is talking about cutting a little off the front shock shaft, to get the ride height lower. It's about arms level with no pre-load clips, and the inner hole on the arm/#3 on the tower.
enough rambling from me.. it's been a long day and I need to get back to my rebull/vodka
btw, i might have some video from today. I need to process it... and also some footage from the April RCPS race in KC, LOL

I got back from the nats yesterday afternoon.
Have to say i havent had so much fun in a while.
Entry wasnt as big as expected but it but according to other guys it was the best event so far this year.
3 heats of buggies and 2 truggy.
Between myself and Rivano we got as much stick time as possible on Friday for practice and tried different tyres and tweeks.
Rivano had motor issues with erratic idling and flame outs suspect a air leak on the front bearing on his Mamba.
On Saturday morning we got off to decent starting runs only to have them cancelled due to a timing issue so had to rerun them.
The nature of the track was a bit decieving as it had good traction in some places and not in others but made for some good racing.
In hindsight i ran too soft a shock setup with 3x1.5 pistons and 35wt oil where as Rivano ran 45wt oil and looked a lot more planted. Unfortunately for him his motor hassles droped him back.
We qualified in 5th for Rivano and 8th in the Bmains.
For the finals i made some changes lowering my ride height and taking out some droop as well as dropping the rear upper arm inner mount and more wing rake.
In teh 30min final i got up to 2nd and was really going well but had another driviver that kept leaning forward on the stand to have me crash.
After this i just wasnt getting settled and was pushing too hard to eventually take 5th.
Rivano got rear ended on the start and dropped back to last and had to make a charge but jut couldnt keep it together and get up to pace to finish 9th.
Seeing as we havent run much this year we are rather happy with ourselves and learnt a few things thanks to tips i got here.
I took some pics and video clips on my cell phone so just need to get a 3pg player to download them.

Round 5 of 6 for our points series was this past Sat. in Huntsville,Al. My buggy was smokin fast with both shocks(standard and new bb's). I ended up running the bb's with 1.4 pistons and 50wt Losi in front and rear. Was really good except for 1 rough section....rear was kinda floppy feeling. In my qualifiers I was just a tick slower than Alan Burton who set the TQ for the race....first time I've ever been that close to his times on the track.?&^
Fought with engine trouble in the quali's and started 6th in the A-main....pulled up to 3rd after the first round of pits and hungout there until the halfway mark. Ended up getting broke by the 2nd place driver as I was trying to let him by for the 3rd time on the same lap....he crashed the hell out of me and ripped out the pillow ball on the lower arm. That was a 214 sec lap. Ended up 6th...but moved into 3rd place in points. That 214 sec lap cost me a 3rd place finish and 2nd place in the points.
Buggy was great and lots of people commented on how well it looked on the track.

Good question as I haven't ran the car since I put them on (busy during my vacation). I can say that sitting still the car droops a little (neg arm) and the car feels smooth (like a big Lincoln). I have 35k front / 45k rear. If it bottoms out I'll just increase by 10. As soon as I get a ride in (hopefully tomorrow) I'll let ya know. The threads are set to stock which is to the top.
BTW, I read a little about OCM but do they even make these kits / parts anymore? The buggy (in my eyes ***very green***) looks very fast / light on the corners.

of your racing experience and other teams if any you belong to....and anything else that might be relevant as a team mamber, you are responsible for being a representative of Caster Racing.
So if you hack someone and start cussing and throw your truggy in the street in front of 100 people, that would be uncool.....and if you are a people person and like to talk to people and get them to buy a Caster product while you are pitting, maybe we would overlook your lack of mechanical ability or whatever else. All teams have something like it... and of course, when we discount products or whatever, then we have a record of what we are doing for the IRS. It doesn't affect team drivers, but it is a cya for companies who do provide sponsorships...

Normally, when someone on a forum asks "how do I become sponsored" they get a lot of comments like, "if you have to ask, then you are not ready"
Sponsored drivers generally have a lot of racing experience, and either race a lot at a club level and/or go to the big races.
Like Hak said, sometimes a guy can be sponsored even though he's not the fastest guy at his track, but he would be at the track all the time and be someone who is cool to talk to and help other racers, etc. There are plenty of r/c racers who are experienced and can help fellow racers but may not have the skills on the track to win races. These guys can be a good rep for a r/c company.
It's like the famous JFK line... "ask not what your (r/c sponsor) can do for you, but what you can do for your (r/c sponsor)....."
Of course, some sponsored guys are aholes and should have their sponsorships pulled... and that happens once in a while, but most of the time the company is not aware of how they act at the track.

Well have some reall good news about this weekends Rd 4 Kansas pro series. This was my first race with the Caster buggy. Prior to yesterday I had only put about 4 tanks through the car to make sure everything was working properly.
anyway on to the results. This race was held at Timber Line raceway in Osawatomie KS.. the track is hard packed with a light dusting. Lots of eleveation, not too many big jumps. I was able to TQ by 8sec over second place. And then went on to take the overall win in Expert buggy.
Very pleased with the car, by the end of the night things were working very well, could put the car anywhere I needed it, and push it when needed as well with out getting unsettled.
Chris (COOL) Puller took third overall driving his Caster ZX1R, and I know Kieth West was in the A main as well but had some bad luck moving him towards the back. So over all a very good showing for the Caster team.

We also had a Caster TQ this weekend at the North Rd 3 race in Lincoln Nebraska.
Dave Alberico was TQ and Cam qualified 6th overall.
Dave was leading for the first 15 minutes and was building a nice lead and just cruising, when he had radio issues. Turns out someone was on his channel running in the park behind the track. He didn't get back on the track.
Cam had been running in the 3-4 spot at the time, and later made a pass to take 2nd spot but caught a nasty pipe in the next turn and broke a tie rod end. I got him fixed and back on the track, but it took about 5-6 minutes... 10 laps down
So Caster was making a statement but things didn't work out in the end.

Cool, congrats on the TQ Dave.. Looks like things are going in the right direction.
I was almost tempted to go up to that race but since I hadn't made any of the other North Pro series races decided to stay in Kansas and catch up on points in the State series.

Sorry to hear about Dave, i know the feeling.
Happened to me last year in a National B main final when i was leading by 2 laps and a kid was playing with his car.
