2009 Northern California Championship
"Over a period of many years a historic battle has been in place between the best drivers from Southern California and the best from Northern California. Northern California is back with an explosion of new drivers and veterans alike and with tracks such as Norcal hobbies this is only the beginning." (neo-buggy.net (http://neo-buggy.net/))
Coming from a Nitro 1/8 scale off road backround I knew that the Caster Fusion was going to be a top contender with the right set up and driver...It wasn't going to be easy because now there was no excuse for mis-tunning an engine or flameouts. Total power whenever I needed it.
Knowing that within a months time this race would be on the way, I knew that I would have to use all my knowledge in setting up the perfect race car to take the win. One month of strait testing gave me the opportunity to see what parts would have the most wear and tear. Supprisingly the only thing I changed was the rear diff cups. Reason being that without the brake bias nitro cars have, the drive train takes a toll while applying the brakes. It's ok because you have to set your speedo with the right brake control.
Day 1 of practice I knew that my springs were to soft so I changed the front springs to HARD and the rear springs to MEDIUM. I did not refresh my shock oils for the whole weekend and the oil set up was still perfect. My lap time were 5 tenths off the pace before I switched springs. Once I switched the springs I was on pace.
Day 2 qualifying
It was a little nerve raking because I knew what drivers and cars I was up against. Round 1 the Caster Fusion put me in 3rd. I don't push hard in the first qualifier just because I'm trying to relax into the car. After Round 2 I was still in 3rd then after Round 3 I was sitting in 5th.
Day 3 qualifying
Round 4 one tooth broke off the pinion, so hearing that sound I took it easy and just wanted to finish the qual. I was still sitting 5th overall after 4 rounds.
A1 A2 A3 Mains were sorted and there was a technical issue with the computer so the director had to position everyone by hand. Just my luck...they lost my fastest times and put me in the 7th starting position. I didn't get upset because it just gave me a chance to show what the car can really do.
A1 Caster took 1st
A2 Caster took 3rd by less than a second
A3 Caster took 2nd
Overall Caster takes 2nd place podium @ 2009 Northern California Championship
I was pushed to the limit by Tyler Vik KYOSHO MP9, Kevin Jelich KYOSHO MP9, Philip Atundo LOSI 8, Barry Baker HB, Josh Alton HB, Jake Alton HB, Sean Cochran AE, Jason Moberly AE and a host of the Norcal’s fastest drivers.
I only used 3 sets of tires while everyone was putting on a new set every round...I need a tire sponsorship too...lol
P.S Had I started in 5th like I was supposed to it would of been a whole different ball game....Thank you Caster for your support at this awesome event. I would like to go to the next event if possible for the Electric class and nitro class when you need a power hitter. Let me know in advance.

I have raced with about 2/3rds of those drivers in your class, They are definutley some of the fastest drivers around there in Cal. Great job on the 2nd place finish. You should come up to Carson City, NV so we could have a 1st & 2nd place win for caster.;)

I would love to see a Caster in the Expert A-Main so you are more than welcome to use mine. I know it will stay together unlike others.?&^
