New to RC cars and planning on buying a buggy. I like electronics as you can see from here (http://www.iowawebhosting.com/kd0zv/images/DSCN0056.jpg).

Wonder what the best radio controllers are? Played around with helis a little but not much so I really dont know much about it.

Nice site and forum BTW :)

Obvious top car radios:

KO Helios.. Airtronics M11... the new Futaba 4PK (http://2.4gigahertz.com/systems/futk4900.html)... and the new Spektrum (http://www.spektrumrc.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=SPM3100) radio too.

I have a M8. Which the M11 replaced... I believe it was the best there was 2-3 years ago. Another friend on mine used a Futaba. It was pretty nice also. I was looking at the new spektrum one. You will want to get something with the spektrum technology capabability. Basically, in a nutshell, companies like Traxxas use an am transmitter and they have 6 channels. They color code their channels. Most FM ones operate on 30 different channels. The problem with these are... lets say you are racing and someone in the pits decides to turn on their radio....if he turns left, your car might turn left, etc.....if they are the same frequency. Spektrum technology I believe has more channels and they lock on to each other. If there is a match, they also have the ability to switch channels.

Since you will probably never race......it won't really matter.......lol.

Yea called my cousin today and he said the same thing about getting something with Spektrum in it. He has a Airtronics and likes it. He just did not like the feel of the actual Spectrum. The M11 sure looks cool if its not heavy. LOL. It looks big.

I will probably never race but will practice till I can out run (or wreck) you.

I am thinking ISB might be a good place for Sunday afternoon racing.

m11 is not that heavy at all. a lot of people are converting over to lithium ion rechargeables from the 8)aa batteries and they weigh less and last longer and are obviously rechargeable.....

I wonder if you or I could figure out how to wire them up??? lol.

2.4 ghz is the way to go for a good radio but its not completely safe.
I beleive at the 1/8 worlds guys had to change back to 40mhz etc.. since cell phones where interferring with there radios.
Chris Tossolini had a run away due to it.

But its definately the way to go.
Slightly off topic but why is stick radios not so common in the US ???
I use a Sanwa Super EXZES and previously used a Futaba 3UCP stick radio and am a lot faster with it than pistol.
I always tend to overdrive with a pistol grip radio.
My Sanwa is converted to Spektrum as well.

I tried my friends new DX3R and it was so much easier to adjust and program the my older spekrums and it is the lightest controller I ever held. Only 4 AA Batteries.

Made a trip to the local hobby store today and since I have an electronics fetish, it looks like its going to be a AirTronics M11 for me (2.4ghz)

Going for a Pro Buggy and leaning towards an Axe Cobra motor.

Cool... 2.4g rocks.

btw, I like the radiation symbol... is that a towel? I'm using the symbol in one of my logo designs... not sure if I'm going to keep it though.

Picked up my Airtronics M11 today. Dont even have a buggy LOL.

Anyway, the thing has a switch on the side that says display. I dont see where it does anything. Nothing in the manual except and arrow that says display switch. Haha

Anyone know what it is?

I use a nomadio sensor, but for some people it seems a little "odd feeling". I do also have a M8 with spectrum and still use it on ocassion. I like the balance feel it has too.

Might be wrong but on the Sanwa radios there is a button that you can press/switch that allows you to go through the settings menu on the radio with out turning it on to transmit.
Its mainly for AM and FM channels so you dont put teh radio on while others are running but you have access to the menu or settings if needing something changed or wanting to check settings.

What servos are you guys running? Right now I'm running a JR 9100T for steering and a Airtronics 94357 for the Throttle. For the Radio I'm using a DX3R. It feels much better than my 3PK.

I'm using the Caster 9851 servos for both throttle and steering, they work great, plenty of torque and fast as sh-t there awsome.:D

I bought ACE RC Servos. One is backordered. The one I have is a DS1313. Honestly not sure if its throttle or steering.

I am a total newbie, but the quality 'looks' and 'feels' great.

How much torque in OZ. do they have? Have you ran them long or just got them? I am running the Hitec 5955 330oz. for steering and hitec 645mg 140oz. for throttle.

Mr Fusion

rrmcabe, Ace servos are very good.

Dude, those 300oz hitecs are crazy.... (I've never had one but dang..) but the Caster 9850 and 9851 will run circles around the 645, lol.

I think the 9850 is about 140 @ .12 and the 9851 is about 190 @ .10 ??

I run Ace 1515 on steering and 1313 on throttle this in the buggy and the truggy has Caster 13KG on steering and 9kg on throttle and have had no issues with them.
All my buggies and truggies run 1800mah lipo rx batts with VXR regulaters and spektrum on my SANWA radio.

Mr Fusion
03-08-2008, 10:13 AM
razzor, that's the same servo setups I'm running too, except Ace in my truggy and Caster in my new buggy.

What lipos are those 1800mah?
