View Full Version : ZX1-R RTR includes no airfilter screw

Well, I got my ZX1 today, and the thing I noticed is that the air filter includes no SCREW!
Luckilly, I have a huge pile of screws left over from other rcs, and just happened to find a tapping screw that was a perfect fit. I think that the screw should be included as the manual says it is... this isn't a big deal, but other people who buy the RTR would expect it to be included :)
I think I'll do a video review of the RTR and post it on youtube cause it looks AWESOME!
Move this if I posted in the wrong section... but there isn't a general chat area of this forum so... i'm confused.

I think it should come with it. It was probably not packaged by mistake or fell out. I am sorry about that. It should have been in the sealed bag but if not then I was never there. Nothing big though. So I see you like it? I am pretty sure you have seen other rtr buggies, so what do you think of it compared to them?

I'll just give the general idea of it right now, tomorrow I'll setup the tripod and do the full video review.

Ok... so here goes!
This buggy, compared to the 2 ofna's that I had in my past, looks so much cleaner in design and has a lot more room on the chassis. It is also much much lighter, but seems like it sacrifices no durability and quality.
Pics and vid tomorrow when it's daylight... too dark now to get good quality pics and vids(even with my hd cam corder and slr cam)

And oh, it's fine for me that it doesn't have the screw, since even if I was unable to find one, they are like 5C at your local hardware store... if anyone were to return the buggy for that one screw, they must be messed in the head. You don't have to take it personally that it doesn't have the screw, but people would be more satisfied if it included it. I personally could care less... I have about 1000 different phillips screws, self tapping screws, hex screws, torx screws, upside down screws, any screw... so yeah... lol

unfortunately missed parts is all part and parcel of RTR kits we get today from all brands.
But its a screw that can be replaced and wont stop you from running it.
Look forward to the review ;)

Nah I'm very pleased with his service/store.
Figure it out as a pebble in the road.

It doesn't seem like caster has much of a rep right now... cause at RCU, every time a beginner asks "What should I get?" 5600000000000 people say HYPER 7!!$@#! HYPER 7! We really need to change that... the caster is a much more clean buggy at like what? only 80$ more?... hopefully my vid will show them that.

Edit: today, took some pics. I think they look great so I'm going to post them... probably will put them in my vid cause vid cams don't really show as high quality as cameras. They are huge... so they should take up a GOOD bit of the screen... lol.

That little white dot is where I marked BDC on my flywheel with whiteout... I suggest we get like normal color flywheels cause i had a good deal of trouble thinking of something white to mark it with >.<
I'll take the vid after my mom comes back and takes me to my LHS to buy some glow plugs, fuel and the like.

That is what I try to explain to people. No RTR's come like that with that thick of shock towers and other aluminim parts. The buggy is awesome!

Well, feel free to go out there and post on the forums. That is the big problem is that we are small, but growing. I figure in about 2 years, everyone will be complaining about how popular the Caster cars are.

By the way, doing the math...vnmsgt will still be top poster with approximately 11,300 posts. (this is based on the assumption that as more people post, he will reply exponentially)

I got the first break in tank in... AND IT WAS SO HARD!
I dont know how hot or cold my engine is cause I don't have an IR sensor.
It is definately rich though(wet plug) so I think I'm going to be fine.
It took me a good hour to start it though... force engine+pullstart= pain in the ass >.<
The next new RC I buy, I'm getting a starter box... lol.
Even though I say it was a pain and anything... it was SOO fun! gotta love hard things!
I'm going to finish my review vid after breaking it in, I dont have enough tape to vid the breakin nor does it show the caster's potential.
Can't wait to tune it and do some high speed runs and jumps!
I love caster :)

Wo, what is it about Caster..anyway

Glad to here you're having fun. As far as the pull start, it is easier if you pull in short burst BUT parallel to the ground (NOT 45 degree angle or up 90 degree). I also heat the engine to about 200. You should invest in the sensor... I would have destroyed my motor a long time ago if it weren't for that and my plug was wet too (and spills) .. mine also looked rich.

I got oil spills... it's on factory carb settings so it can't be too hot.
I'm going to be getting some sort of temp sensor, I'm just going to stick a scientific thermometer down there(the type that goes up from -30 to like 600F)
It should work if it is touching the glow plug... mabee off by around 10-20F colder but that's alright, I'll just tune accordingly(10-20F Colder tuning)

Ok, today, I found something out that should be fixed on all ZX1-R rtr's ASAP.
The "fuel filter" leaks, bad sealing. When I opened it up, it just looked like a fuel flow restriction, which is unnecissary since it didnt even filter fuel.
After taking it off it was fine.

Make sure the fuel filter has a oring on it. I have had some leak but they were not just snug enough. Barely tightened them and they were fine. There should be a small screen inside it. Might have fell out.

Meh they don't do much except limit fuel flow anyways.
Anyone know of a good bump start setup? Going to get one of those soon.
I want reliable, not expensive(lipo... you know)

The reservoir just needs to be tightened up a bit.
They are not filters so dont have screen inside but add volume to the fuel line instead of a much longer fuel line.
Also helps with the engine running when on its roof as well as smoothing out pressure pulses.

I want reliable, not expensive(lipo... you know) I use the OFNA Chrome top starter box. Has the single high torque motor in it. One of the strongest you can get.

I had to pinch the line after the reservoir then... pinching before just didn't stop the car for some reason lol.
I know it works, cause i tried pinching before the res and the car would NOT STOP! lol.
Somehow it didn't seal correctly... I wonder why? :iamwithstupid:

I think the K8T has the same problem with the fuel filter. I just replaced my engine and checked mine and there was no filter either . Replaced it with a mugen one. Is there a reason why it's included?

I'll post pics of my car soon after I complete the upgrades.

Yeah I read that but the manual states that it is? KR20014 part # = fuel filter.

Also, how important is a fuel filter to you guys here? Isn't it worth it in case you get dirt particles in the tank?? I would hate to have a good motor go bad because of no fuel filter.

BTW, I just saw vnmsgt car and he doesn't have a fuel filter either.

We dont use a filter as such because the fuel tank has a built in one .
If you look into the tank you will see a gold piece at the bottom of the pick up, that is the fuel filter.

Ok, I took a run out today... and have the duratrax flashpoint sensor.
The deviation on the sensor is +-10F, so I just took it as being 10 short.
Before I reset to factory(3.5t out) it was 4 turns out... must have been running at like 150F or something... I set at 3.25T out and it only ran at 225F, 6 WOT passes.
How hot can I tune it? It seems like it has quite a ways to go.
A note on fuel economy.... still sucks... got like 17MP125CC(minutes per 125cubic inches)

Also, I noticed a HUGE flaw in the caster buggy.
If it flips(which I have accidentally), the antenna likes to bend out of it's socket. I almost melted my antenna because it rested on my engine head

Drill a small hole in the antenna socket and install a small set screw....be sure you don't tighten it too much and damage your antenna. I also use some Shoo Goo for this sometimes.

I would not really run it over 275. I try and stay under that BUT some people like to tune for performance and not tune to temp.
