Another newbie question.

I have decided against a RTR and going to order the Pro. So looking for a motor. Doing a little surfing it seems the Axe Rossi are decent motors for the money.

Is something like this click here (http://shop.vendio.com/RossiEnginesUSA/item/963126093/index.html) a good choice for a Pro buggy?

You talking about a truggy or buggy because that is a .21. I run a Picco .28 and it has great power and after 15 tanks so far through the motor you still cannot turn the crank over by hand! The think holds a pinch like nothing I had before.

So far the best motor I have had. I ran a couple of axial motors (spec 1) and 2 RR's which a new one is in my ST-RR installed at same time as the Picco in my caster and it feels like a total DOG compared to the picco. Very impressed with it. Has a ton or torque down low and great top end.

I will be going .21 as I am buying a buggy. I might migrate to on road eventually but thing it would be best to start with something like this.

I got a OS .21 VG waiting for my Caster buggy to arrive. Supposed to be a pretty good engine.

More newbie stuff...

So, once I pick my motor for my Pro Buggy what else do I need besides the pipe? Fuel line? Any couplers or anything else?

Probably intake and filter?

The only thing you should need is a pipe. Everything else came with my truggy. Get my buggy tomorrow and will see!!!

Cool. Thanks.

I dont get the whole pipe thing. I used to race snowmobiles and a tuned pipe pretty much had to match the engine. I really dont see engines being matched to pipes??

One of the newest motors on the market is the Go Technologies .21 Buggy 3Port Racing Engine. One of the sweetest 3 port engines around. Perfect for buggy! Or if your into a torque monster, they have the .21 5-port. The 5-port with a turbo head sells at A-main for $209.99. I've been running mine for almost a year and many races/gallons through it, and it still has tight pinch to it. Not to mention it's on my truggy and was able to clear that nasty triple in Atlanta no-problem. :D

Well since you bring up ports and I am a newbie, whats the advantage of the port design. Like 3, 5 and 7.

I also see stuff sold with Buster two port exhaust. At first I thought it was the pipe but dont appear they came with the pipe so must be something related to exhaust port?

The Cobra Evolution is absolutely awesome.
I have one put away till my Cobra expires but doubt that will be anytime soon.
My Axe Black Magic is still running strong at 85liters :)
replaced bearings a couple of times and replaced the rods twice but still running well in my K8T

I'm running a few different motors..Generally for Truggies I like the cheaper .28's..run like a high end .21. I have had good luck with the XTM 457 (close to the LRP ver. 2). In buggy I'm running a NovaRossi 21-7BT (long stroke) good motor for buggy..really faaaast..lol

The Nova motors are awesome and still the bench mark for all rc engines.
While a like my Axe motors the next best choice is the JP modified B5T NovaRossi.

Can someone explain if there is ties between novarossi (which my LHS sellls) and Axe Rossi. Was wondering if there was some common beginnings.

razzor
03-10-2008, 01:00 PM
Axe was and is the Original just they added the Exe part and its run by by the son Paolo.
Rossi originally was owned by 2 brothers after a while the one left to start NovRossi and hes family run the present business.
Rossi carried on concentrated more so on aircraft, boat engines etc...They started a while back making car engine again and as they have perfected there recipe they have finally got on par with there cousins producing awesome car and buggy engines.

Here is the link to the story.

I have also a Axe Rossi Cobra X1 !

And i want to buy a OS XZ .28 !!!!!!!!

razzor
03-11-2008, 02:56 AM
The X1 in the truggy will rock !!
All top drivers in truggy class locally run .21 engines as the bigger motors they say are just too much power and torque. They also post consistent faster laps compared to the guys with larger engines.

I personally run a Speed Tuned 21VZ-B V-Spec Engine in my Kyosho ST-RR and I run a Werks pro 3 in my Caster buggy. I also have a GO .21 5 port coming so I can test that out in the buggy. The Werks motor has alot of Bottom and the V-Spec Screams for more. I love both engines. They are easy to tune and beak in. The down fall with the Werks motor is the Carb. It is a cheesy carb, so I have another V-spec carb installed on the Werks motor.

Exhaust question. I bought the following motor.

AXE Rossi COBRA VP Modified

DISPLACEMENT: 3.5cc

HORSE POWER: 3.87 HP

RPM: 51000

PORTS: 7 + 2 BUSTER EXHAUST SYSTEM

Axe, sells a pipe but I did not order it when I ordered the motor.

I was wondering if there was a big difference in pipes. I know my LHS sells Jammin and maybe another brand.

Here is what Axe offers.

Comments.

I run Dynamite Platnium pipes and they are awsome.

I also run the Dynamite 086 pipe. Great pipes on mid to High. I also Run a JP-4 which also has great mid with a little high. With the V-spec, I mostly run the O.S. T-2060SC. A great pipe for the V-spec.

For the Cobra id suggest the Axe 2050 or a JP3/4.
JP pipes are excellent value and very durable.
I run a JP3 on my Cobra and get around 9.5 mins on a tank and its got plenty rip.

I see some of you guys run GO motors and AXE motors. How much is it to rebuild the top ends on them (piston and sleeve)? You guys also ever rebuild your motors at all?

Lee_Jones
03-19-2008, 09:23 PM
I pull my motors apart at least 1 to 2 times a month to check my piston rod and clean my piston and check bearings. Basically it is a full motor tear down and rebuild.

vnmsgt
03-19-2008, 09:27 PM
I have never had a problems with bearings so far, lucky I guess, But when you guys wear them out (no pinch) are they worth replacing piston and sleeve (GO, AXE Rossi) The axials cost about 65.00 to replace and the SH .28 35-60 to replace. I know some RTR motors (OFNA) are like 100+ to rebuild and that is not worth it.

razzor
03-20-2008, 01:36 AM
I will rebiuld where possible.
A build is worth while if teh crank is still in good nick ie: pin is within spec and not worn.
Axe does the piston/sleeve and rod as a set.
I usually take off the new rod and use a old good condition rod for run in then swap out the rods when motor is run in.
Check bearings regularly and change them around every 15 or so liters.
My bearings seem to last and its partly due to me using 0w30 or 5w30 synthetic motor oil as a after run and lube when the engine is not in use.
