Thought id post this link here and would like Hak to pin it.
Its a good read and although refferring to onroad is applicable to any form of racing. Something we has drivers need to discipline ourselves with.

Very interesting.
I need a lot of consistency.
But i seem to be fairly consistent as thats what gets me in better placing as i don't get to great a lap times. just keep on my wheels.
Thanks for the very good info again Razzor

Thanks razzor, very informative.
Our last race the guy who one both truggy and buggie race was the same guy and had both mugen cars. He was the only guy there (that day) that could keep the car on 4 consistently around the track.

I have another formula: Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.
Definitely a good read though.

It's the same thing I tell my paintball team when we're training, and I think it works well with RC too. When I first started driving RC it was with a Firestorm and I drove balls out (Figuritively, Hak. Figuritively.) all the time and I couldn't keep up with anybody. I changed everything about my car. Engine, gearing, suspension, everything, and I still had problems. It was when I decided to slow down a bit and change my driving habits, that I noticed improvements. I'm still improving but I've come a long way lol.

Ah yes, and thus the importance of practice to gain consistency. I used to preach to Jason when he was green to the racing scene to put in a slower motor so he could run more consistently and place better. I'd tell him "slow down and go fast". He took the lesson well and got fast quick. Not only will you run more consistently in terms of crashing, but often you'll hold tighter racing lines and lower your lap times when you're not crashing as well! I won 2 national titles running 12 x 6 turn mod motors while everyone around me was running 9 and 10 turn single motors. Reason I won is the more mild motor made me way more consistent than I would have been with a faster motor. It made all the difference.

Soonernate, sorry for the dumb questions but what is a 12 x 6 turn mod motor?
Nothing against Caster or anyone else but if you won 2 national championships why aren't you sponsored by a bigger manufacturer? If that info is private information I'm sorry and no need to respond.... I'm just curious that's all.

LOL... it refers to the motor wind.
12 turn, 6 wind (6 strands of wire together, wrapped around the armature blank 12 times)
The higher winds ( 6 is very high...) are a softer motor... has less bottom... more top end... and a really smooth powerband. I never ran more than a triple. I ran 12x2 and 13x2 almost exclusively in mod buggy.
btw, can we call that a "sex" motor? ( single, double, triple, quad, quint, sex..)

I am thinking that everyone here will understand electric motors, brushed and brushless more and more here in the near future.....

No worries, when I won those national titles I had just started college and my racing took a back seat to school in most cases so I couldn't race consistently. Also, they were the 2000 NORRCA nats so it wasn't a major nationals like a ROAR title. And finally, I've never been much of a sponsor chaser. I probably could have gotten on with Losi after that as I had many friends on the team, and people were trying to get me to contact them but at the end of the day I race to have a good time. I can turn some fast laps, but I've never been able to race in and out every week and practice enough to get the level of consistency needed to be uber-competitive at the highest level. At the time I won those, I was racing a lot and got pretty fast, but I don't get to race as much as I'd like anymore.
I have a good time, and I have my good days (not as many as I'd like) but at the end of the day it's about having fun and hanging out with friends for me. That being said, I have raced for Mugen Seiki in the past until my home track closed and I moved to Dallas and quit racing for a couple of years.

“The Consistency Factor” or "Error"
1. Look at the heat or printout of the race you want to review.
2. Take the average of your top 20 laps. It doesn't have to be the top 20, it could even be the average of the total laps.
3. Subtract your single fastest lap from it (which is your cars absolute maximum potential with you driving it). You get what I call the “Consistency Factor”. Or “Error Factor”.
4. Divided by the single fastest lap.
5. The number is higher but relative to what you would be comparing.
bla bla blah = you're slow, practice more and bam Caster Racing makes things easier :)
bring it on
