Need some opinions please.
With us building our new track we are considering building a starting gate.
I have seen these used in teh US and was wondering if its a wise thing to do to add some excitement to club racing.

I believe its used for RC Pro series racing.
We had a RC Pro series going here last year and teh guys went for the finals in the US . Since then the RC Pro has disbanded due to politics.

Would you think we should rather just stick to teh IFMAR format ?

I prefer the IFMAR style starts. We had the starting gate 2 years ago, and it was fun for a while, but eventually it seemed like people grew tired of it.

My opinion on starting gates is that it generaly promotes a huge pile up right at the start. In my experience there will generally be one or two guys that get out cleanly, and everybody else gets tangled in a huge mess of sideways and upside down cars.

So from a racers point of view it really can mess up a qualifying run in a hury.

The only good thing about a starting gate is that it does make for a more interesting start for spectators, that don't know what IFMAR starts are.

Our local track had a starting gate for one year. And is has now been in a junk pile the last two;)

I think it really depends on how serious of a race crowd you have. If your racers aren't too serious, it does make for some more interesting races.
