Hey all, as I was working on my new ZX-1R buggy there were a few adjustments I had to make that were pretty obvious to an experienced racer, but I figured this forum could use a section to share these types of tips with newbies. While most of these will be obvious to the regulars, they might help out some of the new folks. I'm sure others have run across gotchas that could be helpful for a new racer. Nate.

1.) Pillow Ball adjustment.
Out of the box, the Pillow Balls on my kit were screwed in too far. This created a steering problem when the suspension was fully dropped down. By having the pillow balls all the way screwed in, the dogbones went too far into the outdrives and bound when the arms dropped all the way down. This made the steering bind and would actually raise the arms when you turned the wheels.
Fix: Simply unscrew the pillow balls a few turns to allow the dogbones more clearance in the outdrives.

2) Steering Play:
When I got my buggy there was quite a bit of vertical play in the steering bellcranks. While this won't prevent you from running it will make fine tuning of the steering more difficult and inconsistent. I would recommend taking off the top plate over the steering components and placing shims on the steering bellcrank shafts between the bearings and the top plate. You want to get the play out, but not make it so tight that the steering binds.

Ok, just realized I posted this thread in the Pics/Movies forum by accident. Admin feel free to move it to the setup and questions section. Nate.

Where did you get the carbon fiber servo plate?

Looks nice. I need to ask Mikey why we went away from CF....

It's off a Mugen MBX-5R. Only requires a slight adjustment to the front mounting hole. The front hole is about 4mm off so you have to drill a new one, but all the other holes line up perfectly.
