I am putting together my new ZX1-R and I installed my motor onto the mounts and chassis and tried adjusting my clearance between my clutch bell and spur gear. I have the motor mounts slid all the way towards the center of the chassis and I still have WAY TOO MUCH clearance between the two gears, what sup:confused: I am using the clutch bell that came with the kit and my motor is a OS .21VG. I cannot get it any closer. Now I know I can grind away the slots that the motor mount bolts go through the chassis but that is not right. I am not a person who butchers my machines to make stuff fit. Is my chassis machined wrong from the factory or what. I am not new to this and have owned many nitro machines and never have seen this problem.

you are correct you have to notch the two holes closest to the center line about an 1/8 of an inch to get the motor close enough maybe mikey will start to machine the chassis closer im sure hes aware of this

So this is normal with all of the ZX1-R's? I suppose since you said this there is no fix except to notch it out then. What about the RTR's I would rather get one that is correct if possible.

The CNC lightend chassis dosen't have this problem ithas alot of adjustment, but if you use the chassis that came with your kit you'll have to notch it it only takes a little bit and your good.:D

Guess if this is a known issue and everyone has notched it then it should be ok. Just did not want to mess it up to bad.

Also the centre diff holder touches the clutch bell if you use a 12T bell so i had to grind a bit away for the extra clearance.
On a lot of cars no matter what brand there is always some improvising needed :)

Well I found the right dremel bit to make the milled part of the chassis hole longer to I can stretch out the actual hole and got the motor to finally fit right. Thanks for the tip on the bit I needed to get CAM! Worked like a charm.

Well I ran the buggy today and it was fine but when I got home I was looking everything over and check this pic out. I finally got the motor moved over enough to get my gear mesh right but now the center driveshaft is rubbing on my motor mount!! THIS IS NOT RIGHT. Hey CAM I spoke to you about grinding the chassis but now this. This chassis is machined WAY wrong. Is my only fix going to be to buy the upgraded chassis?

Thats odd !!
I know they are close but havent had the mount or engine rub the centre shaft.
Even with a 12T bell.
Only hassle i had was the bell touching the centre diff mount.

Hey hold your buggy front down and look to see if your motor mount is straight that is the only reason the motor mount should touch it's really close tolerences so it has to be perfect, this should be your problem.?&^

Well I just sold one of the Caster 15 tooth harder steel clutch bells to a friend to try out and it lasted only 5 tanks and the teeth on it got chewed up! It looks like the metal was soft. All the teeth are there but look pounded and thin. The gear mesh was set correctly and everything. Is there any way the bell was not hardened or something because that is crazy. I took it back from him and will take pics tomorrow and post them. He took his stock Hyper 14 tooth clutch bell off with 1.5 gallons on it to try the 15 tooth and the caster aluminum shoes and this happened. The shoes are fine and he likes them since he put the 14 tooth back on and we ran 10 tanks tonight with them. What do you guys think about the Caster 15 tooth?

okay, guys, and users, Caster Racing do apologize for the inconsitancy quality control, as we will be looking at them very carefully now a days,

what happens is that, when we do harden gears...sometimes, the hardening process starts, the clutch bell who is in the front and last bit, sometimes, it didn't get to the hardness
so sometimes, you will do get few of them out there...as we can't take each one of them and put on our hardern testing machine to test 5000 clutch bells on our normal production, as 1 clutch bell might take up about 1 min to do so, and this will just kill our

Testing machines.....^__^ so i do apology for someone who have the best luck to get some of the......^___^

i think those no just happen to Caster Racing, this happen also to all brands in the world, ...just like the ISO 9001 they still have to accept a 3% rate of not 100% quality......and i hope my explanation is good enough.....

but we will do our best to try to keep it 100% for all of the Caster Racing USers.

Once again, All the chassis holes, and gears have been modify on new kits soon .

we are working on it......and in next shipment, the cars will come with 46T , so this way, it will also clear out some of the "soft touch issues"...

just tell you guys, why its 44t, first, we get smaller and faster speed on mid-high accelation , and also more top speed too, and
point 2, we can get the weight more close in the center....^_^

and by the way, thanks guys, thank you for your inputs ,
we will do out best to over some it very soon...!!!

Mikey

I am thinking it did not get hardened because he has a mugen hardened clutch bell and you can put a file lightly on it and it does not even make a mark on the clutch bell, Same for the Hyper bell he has. You put a file on the Caster one and it puts a groove on when you do it just slightly.

It's definitely not normal... must just be one that got missed or something?

We are running Caster ones with no issues.

There have been a couple parts with issues, but as Mikey said... they are trying to fix any sort of problem like this.

I have the stock caster one on my buggy still and it is perfect. Only other problem I had was the stock bell that came with the K8T kit I got was mis-machined and the hole for the outer bearing was too big and the bell wobbled when on the motor before I ever ran it.
