I do alot of reading on forums and here is Adam Drakes response to a member.
Quote from Dustin "Adam,
Have you had any problems with the throttle servo on the 8ight. I fried a digital one and then went with an analog and have not had anymore problems. My endpoints were set correctly with the first servo.
Thanks."
Quote From Adam Drake "Dustin- You need to make sure you cut the ballcup on the throttle arm shorter and or the brake over ride spring a little short. I was told by Airtronics a while back that digital servos shouldn't be used for throttle. Not sure if that is still a problem."
Can someone take a picture or describe what he means by "cut the ballcup on the throttle arm shorter and or the brake over ride spring a little short."
I ask because I'm rebuilding mine and would like to do it right this time :).
Thanks.

Since digitals are constantly working it think its something to do with not having too much load on it.
I have read a few places that analogues are preffered for throttle but i havent had any issues with my Ace on both buggy and truggy and anyone else i know of.
Then again the only guys killing servos have been the Losi guys.

You should not need to do any of that. It is just for the Losi 8. They have tons of problems eating throttle servo's.

Well I did order the SportsWerks throttle linkage... any mods to that or recommendations. I know some of you currently use it.

The issues they were having was because of the radio tray. I fixed both of my losi's( buggy and truggy and never had a problem with them after that. I use JR 9000s on them both....... But now my losi's just sit and collect dust:D

There are a few things I made sure all my guys have done so they don't fry their throttle servos.
Use rubber grommets/washers underneath your radio tray, especially under the battery section, place them between the chassis and the tray.
Use some kind of brace like the King Headz radio tray stiffenern that area---we machined a bunch ourselves after using one as a template.
Make sure you set up the linkages perfectly. You can cut the ballcup a little shorter to reduce the stress level---just hack off about a 1/8" off the bottom.
We don't use digital servos for the throttle.
Make sure your servo arm is raised/shimmed up enough off your servo to allow your linkage arms to be perfectly parallel to the ground/chassis.All these little tweaks will stop you from burning up your throttle servos.
No probs...Good Luck...if you need pics, lmk...

Would appreciate pics for making the ballcup a little shorter to get an idea of what they were talking about. Thanks.

baplcup shorter means take about 1/8 inch off the end the linkage rod screws into pretty simple. Or u could cut the spring a little shorter so there is not as much tension when the brake is applied. When I used to run the losi truck I used high quality digital servos and never fried not one in about 10 gal.

Only thing you need to do with the sportworks throttle/brake linkage is to bend up the rear brake rod to clear the spur gear.

Guys after reading your tips and viewing the pics I think I fully understand now how to do this correctly. Moreover I think the sportswerks setup makes it alot easier to adjust.
Thanks.

Razzor it looks like the spur gear is no where near the brake rod. Can you explain what you did? Did you shim the hell out of the top plate to make it higher?

No throttle servo, no brake adjustments, no sportwerks mod.....Fusion.....

That is a picture of the buggy is why you see that. You do not have to do what I did on the buggy.

You forgot to mention, run for 10-15 minutes and wait half hour-1hour to charge batteries. LOL! I would rather refuel and keep running :D

Is that the case? Even going Lipo?

Not the case....and you could just buy more batteries!!!

Lipo I think would last alot longer but more expensive too. So are more batteries. But I just like nitro, it is expensive at first only.

One of the reasons on why digital servos have problems when used in throttle/brake applications is that when a digital servo gets stalled (as in braking) the circuit board increases the power going to the motor..this can be very bad on your circuit board after a while due to the increased heat..analog servos dont boost the power going to the servo motor.

Thanks Oasis
That makes a lot of sense.

Guys just got the sportswerks throttle linkage in and didn't know it came with a servo horn. Before I try and force it on, I was wondering if it was compatible with the caster analog servo's (can't remember the number but I believe its a 9000 serious... RTR version).
Thanks.

It should be compatible since it has inserts for different servos.

And more (cents) means less money in the long run.

Oh man that throttle linkage is the bomb! Everything fit into place (except bending of the break rod) just nicely.
Chris, you should stock this item for sure. Better yet, the RTR should have this already pre-installed.
Thanks!

I did have about 6 of them. All sold now. I am going to try and get some more. I think that is the best linkage out right now.

Yeah heck of a deal. Comes with 3 inserts 26,25,24, servo horn, linkages with ball cups for a whopping $8.
On this note, I'd like to send mikey/cam some feedback on improving the RTR for the same or less money. Should I post a thread here or just email them directly.

There is a thread here somewhere a couple pages back probably that said Caster Improvements or ideas or something like that we posted in awhile ago.
