Welcome to the team. You are part of the country's best R/C racing product family. You will find that the Caster Racing USA team is made up of great folks and will be there for you.

What part of GA are you from/at? I just moved from Dacula and my home track (and the best in GA) was Loganville.

First race of the season. Crazy.
I had no plans of racing today. I went to the track after work to show some friends my car. Next thing you know I'm put in the main. The race director is a good friend and thought that it would be great if I ran the A main with a car not ready to practice let alone race.
Now, I just got my new ESC and Motor and steering servo in the car today. I had not driven this new car even two feet prior to being put in the race today. To make it even more of a challange it was on a new track layout that I have not driven on. I didn't even have my transponder in my car, They gave me a hand out and I had to put a hole in my body to run it, I even had to barrow a body clip to hold the transponder.
So, no practice, on a car that I have not driven. I haven't even centered the steering servo. The car went to the right if I let go of the wheel. Lots of fun.
First lap I cross the line in 9th place out of 11. Lap 2 8th place, lap 4 I'm in 3rd place. I stayed in 3rd place up to the 7 min mark when my batteries died (oh yea, my batteries were not fully charged) I finished the race 8th. What a way to start the year. Lots of fun.
Thanks to Dave Sanders and everyone at Phil Hurd raceway for putting me in a race last minute.

Glad you like the body, I have had alot of compliments on it. I got the body and car from Damon. I have two of those bodies.

Well, I ran the Colonel's Winter Classic in Savannah on Saturday.
WOW. I sucked. I just could not get a rhythm going. I was struggling with a ill handleing car all day. It would be very loose one round then very tight the next. Sometimes changing every lap.
I can only blame it on myself. Normally I will do alot of prep to my cars befor I race. This time I did none. I was very busy at work the week prior and the car had felt great during practice so I just ran it. I know better than to do that.
I am now doing a complete rebuild on it. All bearings and control arms will be replaced, the front axles changed and all fluids changed.
Over all it was a good race day. I did meet alot of great people and got to show off the car. Alot of people came it to my pit area to see the Caster car. As it was the only one there and alot of people had not seen one up close. To bad I was running so bad that day, but it did show how tough of a car it was as I punished it all day
My next race is a Club race on the 28th. Next planned big race will be The Psycho Nitro Blast March 8th-11th. That race will be covered by liveRc.com for the full 3 days. I will for sure put up much better results.
I hope you guys will watch it live. I can't wait.

Daniel... Sounds like my race night the 13th... Kinda... the car was fast... too fast, and the track was LOOSE and all it did was make an otherwise nervous driver (me) even MORE so knowing the car was just NOT doing what I wanted it to. Sucks when that happens! I bet you'll get it dialed in! I am hoping last nights practice is a tell for me how I COULD do. I will get to see tomorrow night I think.

Well, the rebuild is done on the car. I changed all the bearings, the control arms and all the fluids. The steering was binding and the center diff was near empty. All is good now.
Just in time for for this weekends race to be canceled due to rain. That sucks.
I ordered a new radio and torque servo from Radiopost today. It should be here Thursday. Can't wait.

Was at the track today working on getting the car dialed in. Car is much better after changing the center diff from 7000 to 5000.
Now I'm running 5-5-2. I'm really liking it.

02-01-2012, 08:44 AM
Good to hear Daniel. I have also settled on 5-5-2 in my diffs for now as well. Changed up my front springs and went a bit heavier on front shock oil to slow down turn in a bit. It was just over rotating on entry and under heavy braking would nearly just swap ends if I wasn't careful. We'll see. If that doesn't work, may go back to the springs and oil I had in there before and just raise the front diff to 7k. I'll find out on Friday!!

I got my new Radiopost radio and servo yesterday. Ran it today. I'm really liking it so far. What a sweet servo . Super fast and smooth. Radio felt great. Very responsive.
Really looking forward to the next race.

Nice! Glad you like the radio. I have mine all ready to go for this weekend (RC Pro race). The thing is so easy to navigate and set up, I went ahead and made the change before this weekend. I normally wouldn't do that, but we'll see what happens, lol. Which servo did you get?

DanielDeTinne
02-08-2012, 08:04 PM
Well, last weekend was race number 4 of 2012.
I have to say, after taking such a long break from racing I am pleased and disappointed at the same time. I finished 5th. However there were only 6 racers that day. I did however beat my personal fastest lap 3 times that day and my consistency is getting better. I am also honing in on a setup that I really like.
I am sure that by the end of March that I will be in the front of the pack more often.
I try to get to the track everyday for at least an hour. It is really helping. Unfortunately I killed a motor this weekend and now have to wait for a new one. It should only be about a week, so that's not too bad.

Well, you need to work on nerves. I see potential though!

Also, hopefully you proved Caster is almost indestructible at your track. The car was punished that race!

DTRguy
02-10-2012, 12:20 PM
NERVES SUCK! Keep at it Daniel! I hope to do better tonight too! Last practice I was averaging low 24's with a string of 23's and a best of 23.3. Fastest guys average low 23's to mid 22's with 21's in there for good measure. I am NOT far out of the hunt! You will get there! I had to slow my steering down a touch, and raise my rear camber link back up to the middle to give me better rear traction to help prevent rear washout. You are having some of the same issues it looks like. I also raised my rear diff fluid to 3k.

Well I missed last weekends race. I ordered the Trinity Epic D8 1950kv motor. It came in today. I'm not sure if I'm going to run it. It is heavy. The motor I have is 345grams this motor is 375grams. That's alot heavier. Not as heavy as a Tekin truggy motor but still heavy. I have to think about it.

DanielDeTinne

Well after weeks of the track being rained out I finally got to race again.
It was not a good day. To start I forgot my radio at the house. I had to leave my stuff and go back home and get it. I got back to the track 5 min. befor qualifing started.
During the first qual my center diff leaked out all the fluid. That made it a little crazy. I finished 5th of 6. Second round of qualifing lost the center diff again. This time I was able to control it a little better. I qualified 3rd. By this time I gave up on the center diff. So round 3 I was 4th.
Then the main. I have a new set of Venom packs. I got about 10 second into the main and something happened to one of the packs. The car just shut off. Later I went home and tested the voltage, nothing. It's a hard pack. I guess a wire inside came apart.
That was my day. I came home and ordered 3 new diff housings. I will go ahead and redo all of them. Next week is a points race and trophy race. So I'm happy I had trouble this weekend so I can get it fixed befor next Saturday when it counts.

By the way, I ran the new motor and chassis layout. It was great Friday night when I was testing my setup. Too bad about Saturday. Next weekend will be better.

Daniel- so you kept the Trinity motor? What did you think? Also- if you have the race pack Venoms they come with a Warranty. (they are making "sport" packs i think now that don't, lower priced packs) Send an email and they will get you a RA. I have had really good luck with Venom but had a pack go bad on me a month ago or so. They were cool to deal with. Sent a brand new pack to me. Pretty painless.

03-12-2012, 08:26 PM
Oh yeah- and like Rick said, what's up with the diffs leaking? Thus far- mine have not leaked a drop, and that's a first for me no matter what I was running.

DanielDeTinne
03-12-2012, 08:30 PM
Thanks for the info. I will send them an email.
I really like the Trinity motor. It's very smooth and has crazy power. Alot more bottom end than the hobbywing motor I was running.

DanielDeTinne
03-12-2012, 08:33 PM
The problem with the diff was two screws stripped so I could not get it tight enough to hold a good seal. That's why I ordered new housings. No big deal. Just kind of sucked when it happened.

Well I raced Saturday the 17. Good day overall.
There were 12 drivers running ebuggy.
I really struggled during qualifing. I kept shaking on the drivers stand. I just could not relax. I qualified 10th. Started 2nd in the B main.
There were only 3 drivers in the Bmain. I took the lead in turn one and checked out. I ended up lapping both the other cars. That was the best I've driven all year. I also beat my personal best lap time. I was very happy.
I bumped into the Amain. That was a struggle. The track went really loose and I just could not hold on to the car. I ended up finishing 8th in the Amain.
Overall it was a good day. I'm seeing improvement everytime I race. So I am very happy. Just need to keep working on the nerves.
