sorry for being a nub but when the term diff oil 5,5,2 is put forward how does it run F,C,R or what duh showing my knowlege now i know
if the centre diff has too light an oil will it reduce the ability for the diff to transfer power up front? the reason i ask is when the car is resting half on the table and front wheels in the air if you rotate them the rears dont move at all or vise versa! if that makes sense? there is no real resistance i only had 1000 to put in i guessing thats my prob any help be appreciated thanks
happy new year _ hope im in bed by 7:00 pm lol

Thats correct it refers to front/center/rear diff oils used in a setup.
Lighter center diff oil will transfer more power to the front and sort of pull you through a corner or help on a very loose surface with low traction. The thicker you go on the center diff the more responsive and aggressive teh acceleration will get but you would also need the traction to benefit.

the wheels don't turn by hand or when you rev he motor? by hand you would need to lock the diffs to get them all to move or spin the wheel very fast. at driving rpm's they will move just fine.

Is your rear center driveshaft turning? If so then the grub screw holding it down to the rear pinion gear was not tightend down. Also are you grabbing BOTH front tires at the same time and turning them If not then the back tires will not move.

no no movement on the rear shaft, movement all the way to centre diff then nothing...thats turing both front ,if you do the same with the rear its the same, i have tried a old centre diff and its still the same, the way i see it it wont drive the rear if the front is off the ground vice versa if the whole car is on a stand & you rotate the rear wheels the front should move 2 ?, thats not happening.drive shafts are tight too, duh

I do not know what to tell you. All I can say is if you used 2 center diffs then you have to have something wrong with the center diffs. If you grab you 2 front wheels and turn the THE SAME WAY AT THE SAME TIME your whole drivetrain will turn and you back wheels will turn the same way you are turning your front wheels. If your FRONT center driveshaft is spinning all the way into the center diff but the rear center driveshaft is not spinning (including your outdrive that the center driveshaft fits into on your center diff) all the way to the rear diff, your center diff is messed up. That is all it can be. Nothing else.

Also unless your pin that goes into the center driveshaft that goes into your center diff outdrive for some reason came out. Never had that happen as they are pressed in.

Hey mate, (my first post, woowho) this is a great site with top little bits for us newbies...as i have a brand new ZX-1R kit on the work table at the moment that i scored off eBay:o, and have been wondering about diff oils too. I have just bought some to run 3.5.1 for the build as the (ZX-1) book says. Any other thoughts....

Its a OK start but would suggest 5 in the front for a bit more onpower steering.

Thanks for the info guys! Hope my ZX has the responce time that your posts do ! After looking at this I reckon I will start with 5.5.2 and change the front diff oil on my old worlds II as I now know that this will help with the steering. Im not a racer as the nearest track is over 2 hrs away but love racing my mates on 'tracks' that we set out. Hopefully with the ZX up and running it just might be worth the 2 hr trip...:)

Definately get 2 the track!!! Once you go once you will find yourself being drawn there more often. When I was younger I played every sport and excelled at baseball and had an accident and have knee trouble now so this is my sport. I used to bash MT's then I suped 1 up for racing, went from there to 10th scale electric ad now Buggy and Truggy and still alittle 10th scale electric.

Yeah man, I can hear the track calling:D will take me a bit to get there as i have to save a few $ to get servos and a new TX/RX(want to do it right) and looks like engine will be a RB S7 that i am trying to seperate from my uncle. Here is a link to the clubs web site that i will be going to race at , it has a picture of the track on the main page. http://www.morcc.com/ ?&^

I've only run twice, so no real exact set-up yet.
Been trying 5000F/5000C/3000R.
The shocks I've replaced with big bore versions last time out but I think it was about 50wt and blue springs.
Our first up run for the year is early Febuary and I'm doing a clean up on the buggy from it's last meeting as we speak.
The buggy has been pretty good but I'm looking forward to getting more experience with the set-up and getting it as one of the front running cars on the track.
